Les Misérables: Film Thoughts

Wednesday 30 January 2013

I have literally just gotten back from seeing this film and I am still in awe! Originally I wasn't planning to see it, but after having a day laying in bed feeling ill and sorry for myself I decided I might as well get up and do something! I know of the musical, but had never actually seen it before, and only had a vague idea of the plot. I didn't think it was going to be something that I would enjoy but boy was I wrong... I have to say the actual experience of watching this film was complete emotional turmoil. I was holding back tears pretty much the entire film until I couldn't hold them anymore.
  1. Anne Hathaway broke my heart, I cried like a little baby when she sang, she was so strong and beautiful.
  2. I fell in love with Hugh Jackman, an actor that previously I could never see myself liking.
  3. I fell in love with a little blonde boy with the fire of the revolution in his heart, and cried wholeheartedly at his death.
  4. I actually respected Sacha Baron Cohen in his role. A man who I couldn't stand before (apart from in Sweeney Todd).
  5. I actually enjoyed seeing Russell Crowe onscreen. A man who's face makes me violently angry.
This film made me feel so many things. I have said before on my blog that I cry a lot at films because I feel in touch with the characters, and this film really hit me hard. There were moments of pure emotion, mostly from Anne Hathaway, who deserves every single award she'll gain from this performance. And moments of comedy from the brilliant Helen Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, who together literally make the perfect partners in crime! There was even a moment of cringe when what appeared to be quite a graceful death was accompanied by a horrific sound effect.

Visually this film was beautiful, comprising of a lot of long shots of the characters singing in close up, which of course added to the emotional factor. I felt though that it also brought something different to the film visually that I feel could only work with a story such as this.

Even if you don't like musicals... Even if you hate the French, you MUST see this film. It's worth seeing just for Hugh Jackman's performance. The amount of love I feel for the characters that I just watched is unreal. I've gone from someone who knew little to nothing about Les Misérables, to being a fan.

Honestly, go. and. see. it.

I always seem to find that the films I'm not bothered about seeing are the ones that stimulate me the most emotionally and intellectually. Maybe I should watch every single film I've ever not been bothered about seeing.

My friend Elliot also wrote a review which you can check out here.

Hello there!

Tuesday 29 January 2013

Hello there world!

I have started a new blog (yay?). Mainly because I didn't want to have my personal and my nail blog on different platforms and Blogger is a billion times better than Wordpress so here I am! I will be posting on here from now on, hopefully a lot more frequently than I did on my old blog. I will be keeping my old blog up  as it has a LOT of old posts on it, but I'll just be posting everything brand new on here from now on.

I'm hoping to do weekly wrap-ups of what I've been up to, providing that my week has been interesting enough! As well as this I'll be providing you with my thoughts, and feelings on a range of topics from TV to news etc. Also there is my Nail blog which you can check out here.

If there is anything you want to see on this blog in particular then don't be afraid to leave me suggestions!

Also can I be the first to say how awesome I think my blog banner is! It's just a small collection of my favourite things until I can get someone awesome to draw me a better one!

That's all for now!
