Music Monday's: Girl Power!

Monday 29 June 2015

Welcome to Music Mondays, a new feature on my blog where I will be adding a song and then giving up the memories that flood back to me when I hear it...

This week is all about the Spice Girls, a group that were big in the 90's when I was a child, and they were a huge part of my music taste as a child. I'm totally not ashamed to say that sometimes I put this track on and dance around the living room belting out the lyrics!

The memory that sticks out the most to me is one of me and my cousin being in my living room dancing around to this song and making up dance routines. Am I the only one who did this as a kid? The thing I remember the most is both our mum's watching us from the sofa and laughing as we pranced around the living room. Also for some reason I have some vague remembrance of eating jam sandwich's with ready salted crisps in them, whilst this song was playing, and I don't remember eating it ever again.

What memories do you have of this song?

Sum Up Sunday #20

Sunday 28 June 2015

Couple's Selfie, Iron Man Makeup, New Youtube Video, A giant fan in our room, Playing with table confetti, New jelly sandals.

This week has been all about getting my life back on track. I had a doctors appointment, and an appointment with the HR department at work discuss me coming back. I've also spent the week being back on a diet, which has been surprisingly easy to follow. I am back on the Weight Watchers diet and this time I am doing the pro-points diet instead of filling and healthy meaning it is much harder for me to have a sneak snack and justify it as I have to write EVERYTHING down. Thankfully there is an iPhone app making it so much easier for me to make sure that I am on track. So much so that I managed to lose weight on my first week, yay!

This week I did my first proper makeup tutorial on my Youtube channel, and it was an Iron Man look, and it turned out way better than expected, if you want to see that you can check it out here.

Finally today I attended the Christening of my newest cousin, Eve. She is six months old and is seriously one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. Plus it was nice to see another family member being Christened in our family church, where we have ALL been Christened, and where hopefully one day my children will be Christened too!

Let me know what you have been up to this week in the comments below...

Reading: Nothing, I am picking my next read as I type
Listening To: Taylor Swift - Bad Blood
Playing: Games on my iPhone
Feeling: Nervous and excited
Looking Forward To: Going back to my job

Beauty Besties: Iron Man Makeup Tutorial

Saturday 27 June 2015

It's that time of the week again, the time when I link up with my wonderful blog friend, Kerrie, don't forget to check out her post here. This week we decided to re-create our favourite tutorials, and as you may have guessed from the title, I decided on an Iron Man inspired look. If you prefer to watch a Youtube video then feel free to skip ahead to that.

Here is the finished look, I was honestly so happy with how it turned out and it was so simple, you can easily recreate this look.

To create the look you need to follow the below steps:

1. Primer your eyes: For this I used my PriEYEmer by Along Came Betty.
2. Using a white colour (1) sweep this across your entire lid
3. Using a red colour (2) Place this in a 'C' shape only on the outer third and inner third of your eye, leaving a gap in the centre.
4. Using a bronze colour (3) Pat this onto the centre of your lid.
5. Using a lighter gold colour (4) Pat a small amount on the eyelid to lighten it up.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 on your lower lash line.
7. Use a blue pencil liner to line your upper lash line and waterline.
8. Curl your lashes and apply your favourite mascara.

When you are done it should look something like this...

If you want to watch how I did it then please have a look at the video below!

Friday Favourites #12

Friday 26 June 2015

Hello everyone, I hope that you have had a wonderful week, I know I have. My life is finally getting back on track, I am starting back at work next week, and I have been feeling a lot more myself! So here are the things that I have been enjoying this week...

Somebody recreated some of your favourite Disney Princesses as raptors, and the result is both hilarious, and actually really cute! Check out the rest of the Raptor Princesses here.

Watching Insidious Chapter 3 in the cinema has reignited my passion for watching horror films. Thankfully there are plenty of them that I have never seen, so I plan to try and watch at least one a week, so if anyone has any suggestions for any I need to watch then please let me know.

I have just started a new diet, and am missing some of my favourite things, including Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia, my absolute favourite ice cream. I always have some when I go to the cinema, well, I always USED to have some when I went to the cinema. I had a brainwave and decided to google a recipe. Thankfully Chocolate Covered Katie was my saviour and I found a recipe that is only 3 Weight Watchers points per serving!

Whilst I was at University I was introduced to a hilarious Australian TV Spoof Show called, Danger 5. I recently found out that the show is now on Netflix, so not only did I introduce Tim to the first season... but I got to see the second season for the first time myself.

Let me know what you have been enjoying this week!

Gaming Diaries #2

Thursday 25 June 2015

Welcome back to gaming diaries, I'm so glad that some of you enjoyed reading last week's post, which encouraged me to keep on going!

With E3 being last week, an abundance of trailers for some new game releases have appeared on Xbox Live and also on Youtube, and I have been SO excited. That excitement has been channelled into playing games that are most closely linked to the new releases I am excited about.

One of the trailers I saw on Xbox Live that got me the most excitement was the announcement trailer for Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2. I play the original all the time as it's an interesting and different take on a first person shooter, plus the characters are really cute!

In the first game my favourite mode is online multiplayer, and there are several game modes within that, from a simple team vanquish to gardens and graveyards where the objective is to capture or defend gardens. Not only do you get to play as cute plant's such as the Chomper and the Sunflower, but you also get to play as Zombies. Each character has their own class, for example the Sunflower is the healer, and the Chomper is for close range attack. I normally always play as the Sunflower because being a healer isn't the most popular class, but it's actually one of the most important! This game is the perfect one to play if you want to blow off a little steam, whether it's Zombies or Plants that you are killing...

The other game that was I was super excited by was Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer. I have been a massive fan of Animal Crossing ever since I played Wild World on my DS. Since then I have played every game that came after, and Happy Home Designer is going to be no exception. Especially as it is going to be so different to any of the other games!!! If you too are a fan of Animal Crossing you need to to watch the trailer.

Having recently liberated my family's Wii Console as mentioned in the previous post, I repurchased Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City. The second Animal Crossing game that I ever played, it was the first instalment of the game to have more shops than just Nook's and the Able Sister's place, which is what made me get it in the first place. Although I will admit playing a game like this on the Wii is certainly confusing. I restarted my town and got to grips with the controls, and even got through a days work at Tom Nook's. From now on it's all fishing and decorating my new home, oh and making some new friends!

Let me know what games have you been playing this week?

Trying American Candy!

Tuesday 23 June 2015

A couple of weeks ago me and my sister decided to try some American Candy like everyone currently is on Youtube. A lot of it contained peanuts therefore my sister didn't like them, and to be honest I wasn't too keen on some of them either. However there were a few in there that made up for the rest, so check out the video below to see what we liked and what we didn't like!

Have you tried any American Candy before, if so what did you think of it?

Movie Mondays: Jurassic World

Monday 22 June 2015

I was lucky enough to be able to go and see Jurassic World last Wednesday with Tim, and ever since seeing it I've been nostalgic for all the Jurassic Park movies. I grew up watching the Jurassic Park series, and it seems to be shown on TV almost every holiday so whenever it is on, you can guarantee I'm watching it. I don't know what it is about these films, but they make me feel like a kid again, I get excited by seeing the dinosaurs, but also terrified at the same time. In fact I still have reoccurring nightmares every time I watch one of them, and yet I still love them.

As soon as I saw the Jurassic World Trailer last year I believe, I was desperate to watch it. I'm a fan of Chris Pratt, and all things dinosaur, so putting the two together was always going to be a huge thumbs up from me! So I thought for this movie Monday I would share things that I loved about the new movie, whilst trying not to spoil it for all of you!

  1. Chris Pratt's relationship with the Raptors: The velociraptors and probably some of the most terrifying dinosaurs to me personally, so the fact that they gave them a new dimension was really exciting to me. I loved the idea that a person could bond with these creatures that fundamentally live to hunt. Best of all I loved the fact that Chris' character didn't abuse that relationship, despite sponsors trying to push him to, he really cared about the relationship he had with them. There's a scene, that's also in the trailer, where a 'keeper' falls into the enclosure with the raptors, and Chris' character rushes in and stops them from hunting him. To me that is one of the most powerful scenes in the entire movie.
  2. Everyone Underestimating the Indominus Rex: Of course for the movie to be in line with the others there has to be a certain degree of everyone underestimating the intelligence and power of the main threat, in this case the Indominus Rex. Although one thing I liked was that Claire (the woman who runs the park), knew all along deep down that the dinosaur was really dangerous, but she was too loyal to making the park work to actually speak up. Ultimately resulting in the park's downfall (that isn't a spoiler right? we all knew it was going to go to S***).
  3. The Oldschool Dino's Save The Day: In the trailer we see that to save the park they decide to use the Raptors to hunt the Indominus. In the first movies the dinosaurs are always simply hunting the humans, so it was a nice change to see them helping to save them instead. Obviously there is still a great deal of human death at the hands of all the meat eating dino's, but what else can we expect from a Jurassic Park Sequel?
  4. The T-Rex is Ultimately Still King: Again I don't want to give anything away, but there is a lovely shot at the end of the movie, which is very reminiscent of the first Jurassic Park. Where the T-Rex screeches, showing that it is ultimately the ruler of the park. I was glad that they put in that little nod to the first movie, and also glad that the T-Rex was respected as the original scary monster.
  5. Comic Relief: One of my favourite actors from the TV Show 'New Girl' Jake Johnson makes an appearance solely to be the comic relief in this movie, and it's brilliant. I don't want to spoil any of his moments for you because they are brilliant, but it was nice to have a supporting character having some light-hearted moments in amongst all the seriousness of the plot.
So there you have it folks, there are just a few of the MANY things I love about this film, and honestly you need to go and see it. If you like the originals then you will be pleased with how this sequel sits in the series!

Let me know if you have seen the movie already and what you thought of it?

Sum Up Sunday #19

Sunday 21 June 2015

From top left to bottom right: Gerbils enjoying a treat, Baby Bunny Rescue, Youtube Video Aftermath, My Buddy Iron Man, Maizey being crazy, new phone case, Fun at the fair, Jurassic sippy cup, Pink hair.

It's been over a month since my last Sum up Sunday post which just seems crazy to me, but a lot has been going on in my little old life!

First off I have something personal to admit. I have been suffering really badly from depression once again which has derailed my life a little bit, hence why my blog began to suffer. It go so bad that mum made me move home with her for a while so she could keep an eye on me and to give Tim a bit of a break from me. It;s been a few weeks now and I am beginning to feel better, and I am planning to move back in with Tim, get on a diet, keep my blog going, and get back to work. I'm not 100% OK, but I am in such a better place now than I was a few weeks ago, and I'm glad to know my family supports me.

The first day I was back at mum's she was on her way to work and came across a baby bunny that was just sitting in the middle of the road not moving at all. She scooped him up and brought him home with the idea of taking him to the vets when she got back from work. So me and my brother were assigned baby sitting duty. However after doing some research online I found out the best place for the bunny was right back where mum found him so that his mummy could find him. So we went and put him back, and I hope that all went well, but if not... circle of life and all that, right?

Surprisingly although my blog seems to have suffered whilst I have been unwell my Youtube channel has flourished with at least one new video every week (soon to be two a week hopefully), I seem to have finally gotten into my Youtube stride, and I hope you guys have been enjoying my videos as much as I have enjoyed making them, here are ones I've made since my last Sum Up, you can check them all out at my Youtube Channel.

Also since I have been living at home I have got to spend a lot more time with my wonderful doggy Maizey! She still loves curling up in my lap like she used to when she was a puppy, even though there isn't as much room for her now she is fully grown. I know how much I love her, but it never really dawned on me how much she loves me until a few nights ago. She was just curled up on my lap and my nan said, 'You know what Alyssia, that little dog bloody loves you', and that's the moment it kind of hit me how much of a special bond me and Maizey have together. Even whilst I was at uni whenever I came back for the holidays she would go absolutely crazy at my return! I cannot wait until Tim and I get our own place with a garden so I can finally live with her again.

Seeing as I have been under the weather, Tim has been doing a huge range of things to keep me occupied. From coming up to London with me to see the short film I worked on, to taking me to the cinema every week, and even going to a fun fair with me and my sister despite the fact he hates rides. One of the favourite things I have done has definitely been regular cinema trips. We both signed up for Meerkat Movies due to buying our car insurance through Compare the Market (not sponsored it's just an awesome scheme). Basically every week you get a code for 2 for 1 tickets, meaning the price of the cinema trip is cut in half, and the best thing is, most cinema's accept them! This week we went to see Jurassic World which I have been dying to see ever since the trailer came out, and I wasn't disappointed, it was amazing. I also couldn't resist buying this dinosaur sippy cup with the figurine on top, and have been using it every day since going to see the movie! Honestly if you are a fan of the original films then you need to go and see it, I won't go into too much detail as I want to dedicate a whole blog post just to that movie!

Finally I made a snap decision to dye my hair a crazy colour and settled on pink. I think it looks pretty awesome, and I think dying my hair different colours is going to become a regular occurrence for me now, but what do you think?

This Week I'm...

Reading: The Curvy Girls Club by Michele Gorman
Listening To: ALL the Fall Out Boy Songs
Playing: Super Mario Galaxy
Feeling: Like I still have a long way to go
Looking Forward To: Being back home with Tim!

Beauty Besties: My Skincare Routine

Saturday 20 June 2015

Welcome back to Beauty Besties! Where myself and the wonderful Kerrie of Pish, Posh and Polish both do a blog post/video on the same topic every Saturday. As you may be able to guess from the title of this post, this week is all about skincare. Now I know I have done a video every week for this link up so far, but this week I didn't have my camera with me, so have decided to do things the old fashioned way and write a blog post! Don't forget to go and check out Kerrie's post here.

My skincare routine is actually pretty simple to be honest. I'm not one for a tonne of fancy products that claim to do all sorts of magical things, I'm happy with the basic. Mainly because I severely lazy in general...

First off my face wash. I use this every day in the morning and at night once I have removed my makeup. This Simple one has no scent, and is just a basic face wash. Nothing fancy, does the job. It removes any extra makeup that I have missed and also excess oil on my face.

Then every other day, normally in the morning when I am in the bath, I use the St. Ives Apricot scrub to exfoliate. I gently massage this into my face and it helps remove any dead skin and help control blemishes. The best thing about this face scrub is the exfoliating beads are made from crushed walnut shells, so they are entirely natural and you don't have to worry about them harming the environment once they have gone down the drain.

I swear at the moment, my skin hates me, I have a lot of blemishes and as soon as one disappears another shows up in its place. So I have been using this Simple Spot Zapper after washing my face and before makeup to help reduce redness and swelling. It's very good at reducing the bigger blemishes I have and it helps to dry them out over a few days.

My current favourite skincare product is my Garnier Simply Essentials makeup remover. I use this every evening to take my makeup off before I wash my face. It has a micellar water and also and oil in it, so you mix the two together and it takes everything off. I have even used this on Benefit's They're Real mascara AND Liner and it's taken them both off with no trouble, and no need to scrub at my eyes. I'm just so impressed at how it cuts through the makeup. Also despite containing oil it doesn't make my face feel an extra oily than normal, however this could also be to the fact that I normally wash my face immediately after using.

So there you have it, my very basic skincare... Let me know in the comments what products you use, and whether you recommend any for me to try on my oily skin?

Friday Favourites #11

Friday 19 June 2015

Welcome back to Friday Favourites, it feels like it's been forever since I did one of these posts, but I'm finally trying to get my bum in gear and get back into some sort of blogging schedule so here I am!

I have found a new series on Youtube that I am absolutely in love with, Man vs. Pin! Each week the host, Rob, takes on a popular Pinterest pin and gives a go, ultimately testing whether it is real, or fake. My favourites include the crayon art, the lightbulb terrarium, and the glow cloud! You can check out the playlist here.

I am so in love with dark to light blue ombre hair, and I am currently contemplating whether or not to take the plunge and do this to my own hair... what do you think, should I do it?

My new blog banner, and button are so perfect and they were created by the super talented Carly who runs her own blog sharing her artwork and illustrations, so make sure to go and check her out.

I know Gossip Girl ended FOREVER ago, but I have been going back and watching it from the start, as I have seriously missed it, and I definitely have a Gossip Girl shaped hole in my life right now. Currently on season 3 so I am powering through, it's also gives you a completely new perspective on the old episodes when you actually know who Gossip Girl is!

Has anyone else been as amazingly excited about E3 as I have? There have been some epic announcements from the new Assassin's Creed being set in London, to the Microsoft hololens, and how it can be used in gaming. One of the games I am most excited for however is Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer! It's a completely new way to play in the Animal Crossing Universe, and we all know how obsessed I am with those games right?

Thanks to the new Meerkat Movies promotion (2 for 1 cinema tickets), Tim and I have been going to the cinema every week. This week we got to see one of my favourite actresses Melissa McCarthy in Spy. I already know that anything she is in is going to be hilarious, because I cannot contain my laughter when she is involved. However I did not expect Jason Statham to be as funny as he was. Seriously if you get a chance to see this movie, then go, you will not be disappointed.

Let me know in the comments what you have been enjoying this week!

The Birth of Gaming Diaries!

Thursday 18 June 2015

I've mentioned a few times on my blog that I play a fair amount of video games, this is something that I have always wanted to share on here, but never really found a way to make it work. I did start writing Animal Crossing Diaries which you can find here, and here. However I just couldn't keep up with playing Animal Crossing all the time. So what I have decided to do instead is keep a weekly/fortnightly diary of all the games I am currently playing and the progress that I have made. With that in mind, these posts may contain spoilers, but I will always put a note at the start of each post.

So what have I been playing this week?

Tim and I decided to rescue the very neglected Wii from my mum's house and bring it home for the summer. This means I can enjoy one of my all time favourite games Super Mario Galaxy. Which is one of the very few games I have actually ever completed (i'll be the first to admit that I don't have a great attention span when it comes to gaming).

If you've never played this game before it can be a little confusing. Each level consists of different planets in a galaxy, and these planets can be all manner of weird shapes and sizes with different gravity rules, meaning at times it can get a little disorientating. You can sometimes run the whole way around a planet, but then other times you can fall off of an edge and get sucked into a black hole. It's all about working out the way in which the gravity works in that galaxy, and following it's rules.

I've started this game again so many times that the first three observatories are engrained in my memory forever, so much so that I breezed through them in the matter of a few days of the game arriving on my doorstep. So where am I up to now?

I'm currently on the fourth observatory which is called 'The Bedroom'. This is the first of the observatories in which I don't actually remember the galaxies, and also the first in which I have managed to lose almost all my lives... The difficulty level has seemed to jump dramatically, and I can't tell whether it's me, or the fact that I can't remember these levels. I've gone from a healthy 16 lives, to a mere 5... to say I'm struggling is an understatement.

The galaxy I am struggling with the most is the Dusty Dune Galaxy, which has quicksand that makes you instantly die if you touch it. I have lost SO many lives here... I'm having what I call a 'cool off' period, I always do this when I get stuck on a particular level, I switch the game off and go and do something else or play another game and come back to it later. Because I find if I keep going I get more stressed and ultimately mess up even more. Does anyone else do this?

During my cool off periods and just in general every time I am bored and pick up my phone I have been completely obsessed with the Magic Piano app from Smule.

You can play a number of awesome songs with different difficulty levels. Well that is if you pay a subscription fee! However on Iphone you can get a 7 day free trial if you subscribe, which you can then instantly cancel, but your free trial will still work! There are a number of Disney songs on this that have become my new obsession to play, and there are daily challenges, so you can see where you rank against the other players.

That's about it for my Gaming Diary this week, let me know in the comments what you have been playing, and happy gaming!

Wednesday 10 June 2015

Summer is on it's way everybody, this is not a drill! With that in mind I knew it was about time that I started having a look at swimwear. I love going swimming, and whilst I am not planning a holiday this year, I know that as soon as it heats up I will want to be in the pool everyday!

Beauty Besties: What's in my bag?

Saturday 6 June 2015

Welcome back to Beauty Besties, this week we are talking about what is in our handbags! These videos have been floating around Youtube forever, and I always like to have a nosey. However whenever I watch these videos I have a little giggle to myself because the contents of everyone's handbags appear to be perfect. So I decided that I would be 100% honest with my video, and I didn't have a look through my bag beforehand to reorganise it, I just pulled everything out as it is... and hoped it's interesting enough! If you want to see what was in my bag then check out the video below. Also don't forget to check out Kerrie's post and see what is in her bag!

Wishlist Wednesday: Yours Clothing

Wednesday 3 June 2015

I first heard about Yours Clothing when I watched a channel 4 documentary about Plus Size Fashion. I myself am plus sized but have never really bought into the whole idea of fashion made specificaly for plus sized women. However seeing as my weight has sky rocketed a little recent and I am struggling, I thought it was about time that I started looking! I started with a pair of work trousers, and honestly they are probably some of the most comfortable trousers I have EVER had. With that in mind I wandered onto the Yours website and picked out some of my favourites...

Let me know in the comments which of these are your favourite, and I may just go with your opinion and scoop something up!
