No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation Review

Saturday 26 September 2015

Last weekend I popped into my local Boots in the hopes of being colour matched for their Stay Perfect foundation. After watching Emma Blackery review it on her second channel and I thought the coverage looked amazing, so I knew I had to give it a go, you can check out her video here.

I'll admit it took me a few attempts to actually be seen by someone on the No7 counter. The first few times I went in no one was on the counter, and the girls on the other makeup counters were just looking at me funnily, so I didn't bother asking them. Finally I managed to go in on a day when someone was actually working on the counter. She asked me a little bit about what I like from a foundation, and then she recommended the Beautifully Matte foundation for me. Mainly because I have slightly oilier skin and prefer a matte finish. Being convinced that this might be worth a go I asked her to colour match me. No7 use this interesting little machine on either side of your face on the jawbone to colour match you. I'm not entirely sure what it does to be honest but as it turned out I was the shade 'Calico'. One of things I really like about No7 is that their shades translate across all of their foundations, meaning you only ever need to know you are one shade, and you can pick up any of their foundations.

Once I was colour matched she poured me a tester of both the Beautifully Matte and the Stay Perfect Foundations in Calico. Then I was off on my merry way!

Now when I first opened the pot when I got back home I thought it looked a little bit too grey and possibly to dark for me. In fact I was concerned that it might make me look a little dead... but I was pleasantly surprised! This foundation is a medium/full coverage and therefore is slightly on the thicker side, however despite this it really blends beautifully. I've been using this for a week now whilst at work in my new job, and it lasts beautifully throughout the day, with minimal movement. On top of that this foundation smells so good, it's very rare that you can find a foundation that doesn't specifically smell like make-up, but this one is so nice.

Only thing I would mention with this is that it really isn't a very good 'matte' finish. It could just be my skin is oilier, but I still have to put powder over the top of this before it becomes truly matte. Despite this I would definitely recommend this, considering I only had a small pot, and it's lasted me over a week, I can imagine the full bottle would go a long way.  At £13.50 for a bottle it's a decent price for a foundation that feels so good on your skin and lasts so well. Once I finally run out of this tester I will be moving on to the Stay Perfect Foundation, but I know for sure that I will be purchasing a No7 foundation in the very near future!
