Graduation: A Year Later

Friday, 18 July 2014

I've seen these posts floating around the Blogisphere a lot this week, and to be honest I have been thinking back to my own graduation. The actually day was pretty boring to be honest, it involved a lot of sitting and clapping, and being hot and sweaty, and posing awkwardly for photos.

What graduation meant to me was a different matter... It meant the end of an era, the end of my independence, and the beginning of my life as a 'proper' grown-up. On top of all that, it meant the world to my family. I was the first person in my immediate family to graduate from University, so it was a very proud moment for my mum especially. She literally burst into tears as soon as she saw me in the robes.

However looking back at this, it really makes me realise how much has changed since the day this photo was taken, and I thought I would share those changes with you all.

Since graduation...

I have moved twice... Once to move back in with my mum, sister and brother, which to be honest was not an ideal situation. Then again this March to move in with my boyfriend, which was the best decision I have ever made! Considering that before I went to university, I had never moved in my entire life, I'm pretty used to moving around now, and I NEVER thought I would say that. Tim and I are only planning on renting our flat for a year before we hopefully buy our own place, so I have yet another move to look forward to, but hopefully that will be our last!

I've had three different jobs. I started working in a Debt Management company straight out of university, as my first full time job. The job was fine, my colleagues were lovely, but it really wasn't for me. Then I moved onto working in the Vodafone store as a retail advisor, I loved this job, yes it was retail so I still had to deal with annoying Customers, but I really loved the company I was working for. My colleagues were awesome, and the products I was selling were cool, and best of all I was working for a company I have trusted since I got my first mobile phone! Unfortunately I did have to leave Vodafone, as I needed a full time job to fund living away from home. I do still miss it! My current job is in an office doing telesales, and I get on with everyone there and the job is easy enough. Ultimately it isn't where I want to work for the rest of my life, but I'm saving up to do my make up course so I can become a super awesome Film and TV make up artist!

I almost died. Well I may be exaggerating a little bit, but I had a car accident, in which I flipped my car over, and it was a very scary experience. In fact I wrote about that here.

I met and fell in love with Tim. When we first met it wasn't love at first sight, but look at us now! If you'd like to learn more about our relationship you can read about it here.

I've actually managed to achieve some of my goals! Such as beginning to lose weight (which has always been a big goal of mine), and completing the Race For Life. I'm really enjoying ticking them all off, and can't wait to get more done!

Looking back a lot has happened since Graduation... I do severely miss the university lifestyle, and all of my friends, but I'm glad to be moving forward with my life now! I'm even going to be visiting Aberystwyth (where I went to Uni) for a short holiday this August with Tim. I can't wait to show him Aber, and for my friends to finally meet him! It's going to be so awesome...

Let me know in the comments if you've graduated recently, and what the best part of graduation was for you!

I am alive!

Sunday, 21 July 2013

Yes dear readers! No need to worry, I am actually alive, I have just been horrendously busy this past month, and unfortunately my blog has suffered. However I have returned! I can almost feel the judgement coming from those who will read this, I know that when I myself see a blogger post an 'I'm Back' post I get annoyed. Normally I would just go ahead and pretend that I have never been away, however a LOT has happened that I feel we need to discuss! I'm going to do this in as short and sweet a manner as possible, brace yourselves.

1. My Job!

I've lost count of the amount of times that I have written 'my job' or 'full-time job' on this blog so far, but here we go again. This is probably the most major reason that I have been absent in the blogiverse. I underestimated just how tired work would make me. I get up at 6:45am, I'm at work by 8:30am, and I don't get home until gone 6pm. It's a LONG day for me. I get home, I eat, I shower, and I go to bed. I barely have time to watch Eastenders, and lord knows how I love that show! I do however, have options. One options is to deal with it, and another is to get a job with less hours. At the moment I am entertaining both options. I don't know what the next few months hold, but I'm hoping more free time is one of my options!

2. Youtube Plans!

Yes, once again I am making plans to make Youtube videos. Something I have wanted to do for a long time is Gameplay Commentaries, but I lacked the equipment and money to begin making them. After receiving my first paycheck I decided to take the plunge, and I've invested in everything I need to record! In fact as I write this I have just finished recording my first test video! It turned out pretty good. I'm having issues syncing up the commentary with the footage, but with practice I'll get better! I'm hoping to have my first videos up in the next few weeks. I'm going to be playing Dead Space 2 and Dead Island first off. So lots of death, and scary things.

3. Meeting the little man!

I finally got to go up to Wakefield and meet my cousin Jade's little baby boy! It was his first birthday in May and I was totally gutted that I couldn't go up and see him then. The last weekend in June I made the journey up to Wakefield on Friday night after work. Getting there was a massive kerfuffle. I missed my connection at Birmingham New Street due to A) my train from Reading getting in late and B) The train driver giving me the wrong platform. I ran round to platform 11, which was the one I was told by the train driver, only to discover it left from platform 9... I literally missed it by seconds. Cue an hour wait for a train to Derby, then a two hour wait at Derby for a train to Sheffield, AND a taxi from Sheffield to Wakefield (which thankfully cross country paid for). Needless to say after all that messing around I was knackered. It was all worth it to see little mush face in the end. A photo of him can be seen in the slideshow below! After all that, needless to say I will not be doing another weekend trip anytime soon.

4. Graduation Week!

Literally the week after my nightmare train journey, I had graduation week! A full week of getting wasted in a caravan with my best friends/adopted family. All leading up to the main event, my graduation. I wasn't going to add any photos, but I knew you'd want to see some, so here are a select few from that week!

It was honestly totally awesome! I had a lovely week with my friends, and truth be told it made me sad that I don't get to see them as often as I did back at uni.

So there you are! My four main reasons for being to busy to post on this blog! To make it up to you (kind of) I've made a slideshow of most of my Instagram photos from my time off! So enjoy that, and you'll hopefully be hearing from me very soon!

My Week in Twitpics #2!

Sunday, 7 April 2013

This will actually be my final week in Twitpics as I have secured myself an iPhone! From now on it's Instagram all the way baby!

  1. Mary Berry's Easter Pavlova: I LOVE the Great British Bake Off, and I harbour a serious love for Mary Berry so I knew I HAD to make this Easter Pavlova for my family whilst I was home. It was absolutely fantastic.
  2. Bowling Shoes: Me and my baby bro went bowling. He beat me, every single time. Me and bowling really don't get along...
  3. Bro with weird eyes: He popped these eyes out of a mask we found at the bowling alley and then proceeded to do this for the rest of the day... you really wouldn't guess he's 15 this year...
  4. Cat's in Shopping Bags: My mum opened the cupboard to find the cats having a kip in the shopping bags, so obviously I had to snap a quick picture! (sorry it's dark, but it was in a cupboard!)
  5. Graduation Dress: I chose what dress I want for graduation! Now to pray to the dress fairies that there will still be one available when my loan eventually comes through!
  6. Cheeky McDonalds Breakfast: Mother treated me and Tish to a MD breakfast, this was the day that I met up with fellow blogger Kerrie! (Post coming soon)
  7. Train Reading: I bought this and another book in WHSmiths in a 2 for £7 offer and I love my crime books, so natural gave it a good looking at! This one is very gritty, there were some parts that really annoyed me because the character motivation is a bit off but oh well.
  8. My First Product for Review: YES! I have been sent my first product to review on the blog. This box is massive, and I was very surprised to see that the company sent me their entire new range to try out! *watch this space for those reviews*
  9. Malteasers Teasers Bar: I managed to scoff an entire one of these at work... whoops. They are seriously tasty though and I will most definitely be buying again!
So there you have it! That's what I've been getting up to this week. As I said next week will feature more Instagram photos! Also please let me know if you have any suggestions for apps I should get for my iPhone!

Today I have been having a long hard think about my graduation. It is actually mainly because someone in my village posted on Facebook that she found her graduation dress already. I realised I've not actually thought about the kind of dress I want for graduation. I'm not too sure how formal/casual to go, having never been to graduation before. So I had a quick search on some of my usual online browsing favourites and found the above selection. I'll admit I found the Chi Chi dress because of this giveaway, and I totally fell in love with it. Other than that I have to admit I really like number 4 if I'm going formal. The best thing about these dresses is they are all under £60! Now I just have to convince someone to buy me one for graduation...

31 Day Challenge! Day 16! What's Your Biggest Accomplishment?

Saturday, 16 March 2013

I have mentioned a million times before on this blog that I am graduating this year. Gaining my degree is going to be my biggest life achievement to date. I'll be the first person in my immediate family to get a degree, and probably the only one for a while. My sister is unsure about going to university and I really can't see my brother going either, so it falls on me. As it stands currently I am on track to get a 2.1 degree, which I will be extremely happy with! I know that there are hundreds of thousands of students who will be graduating the same time as me this year, but it's still a massive achievement to me!
