Music Mondays: Will The Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up?

Monday, 10 August 2015

Welcome back to Music Monday's and this week, I'm going way back to when I was a young'un and fancied myself a little bit of a rebel of the system... Who doesn't like a good bit of classic Eminem? If you don't you should leave this post now because I'm about to get all nostalgic!

I can't remember when I first heard an Eminem track, but I know that when I did, something about it just really struck a chord with me, I don't really know why... Maybe it was the fact that he just doesn't give a flying f***! I came upon him in my late childhood to early teens, and I remember I was hooked. I had his Encore album and I used to sit in my room listening to it back to back. constantly so that I could learn all the lyrics... Looking back some of those tracks probably weren't 100% suitable to my age group at the time, but all I know is I loved it. I think it was definitely the feeling of rebellion, and being allowed to not agree with the masses that appealed to me most!

The Real Slim Shady is one of my absolute favourite Eminem tracks, it's right up their with, 'Without Me' which is by far my all-time favourite, and in fact when this track was released people used to sing it at me because my surname is Slade... they called me Slim Sladey (I know sad right... but it happened), and to this day I still sometimes sing 'Slim Sladey' instead of 'Slim Shady'... I am so pathetic...

I happened to stumble upon, 'Without Me' the other day, which around it's release was a really popular song with myself and my family, and I played it to my dad, my sister, and my brother all separately and they all still remember all of the lyrics... Can't believe we all bonded over such a hilarious song, not that I am complaining!

What memories do you have of this song? Let me know in the comments...

Music Monday's: Girl Power!

Monday, 29 June 2015

Welcome to Music Mondays, a new feature on my blog where I will be adding a song and then giving up the memories that flood back to me when I hear it...

This week is all about the Spice Girls, a group that were big in the 90's when I was a child, and they were a huge part of my music taste as a child. I'm totally not ashamed to say that sometimes I put this track on and dance around the living room belting out the lyrics!

The memory that sticks out the most to me is one of me and my cousin being in my living room dancing around to this song and making up dance routines. Am I the only one who did this as a kid? The thing I remember the most is both our mum's watching us from the sofa and laughing as we pranced around the living room. Also for some reason I have some vague remembrance of eating jam sandwich's with ready salted crisps in them, whilst this song was playing, and I don't remember eating it ever again.

What memories do you have of this song?

Thankful Thursday #3

Thursday, 6 November 2014

Welcome back to Thankful Thursday, I originally started writing these last month when they were listed in the prompts for the October Blogging Challenge, but I think they are actually a pretty good idea, so I might keep them...

Halloween: Yes this week I am thankful for Halloween! I am aware that it has technically already passed, and was last week. Halloween is my favourite time of year, I absolutely love dressing up, and I love horror, so why wouldn't this be my favourite? This year I got to dress up TWICE, well I say dress up, both of my costumes were very last minute, so I spent a lot more effort on my make up this year. I also did my boyfriend's make up, twice, yes... he did let me put make up on him! I have photographic evidence on my Instagram.

My New Job: I started work this week at a company that I have major love for, and whilst I am contracting there, I honestly couldn't be happier. I feel so much more at home there than I did in my last job. On top of that I'm being given a tonne of responsibility, and actually feel like a grown up. I'm lucky enough to work somewhere that there is an amazing working environment, and facilities (including free buses), and it still amazes me every morning when I walk into work.

Rediscovering Old music: Within the last week I have started listening to some old 'Now' albums that I've found on Spotify and have rediscovered a whole heap of music that I used to listen to all the time. There will be a playlist coming shortly so watch this space!

My Diary: I now write daily 'To Do' lists in my diary, and it helps keep me on track with everything I want to accomplish for the day, and makes me get off my bum in the evenings and actually get everything done that I need to do. Without it I honestly think I would waste a lot of my time just staring aimlessly at my computer. I mean I still do that, just a lot less.

OBC #14: What's on my Playlist?

Tuesday, 14 October 2014

Whenever I go on a road trip I have to make sure that I have my favourite music with me, particularly if I am driving because it keeps me sane. Normally I hate talking about my taste in music, this comes from being ridiculed pretty much my entire life for the type of music I like. I just never really saw the point in starting an argument with someone, so I normally just listened and never spoke when the topic of music came up. When it comes to music I am into a lot of different things, but mainly I like Pop music. I'm guaranteed to like pretty much anything in the charts, but alongside that I do have a few random tastes.

Any playlist I create will definitely have some Nickelback on it. Now I know that Nickelback get a pretty bad rep, mainly on the internet, but to be honest, I really like them. I've seen them live, and I think there awesome, and I really enjoy singing along to their songs. Anyone who shots someone down for liking Nickelback is certainly no friend of mine...

My top 3 Nickelback songs are:

1) Lullaby
2) Gotta Be Somebody
3) Next Contestant

Back when 'Dance, Dance' was popular I went through a massive Fall Out Boy phase. I went to see them live when I was 15 and I dressed up all emo, and thought that I was so cool. Me and my friend got separated by a Mosh Pit and I panicked and thought I was going to die. They had light up guitars when they played their most recently released song, and they were seriously amazing live. Pete Wentz jumped down to the barrier and was pawing a tonne of fangirls and I almost died because I couldn't reach him. Then Fall Out Boy split up, and I mourned, listened to a tonne of their music, and then to be honest, I kind of forgot about them. That was until they made an epic comeback with 'Save Rock and Roll', as soon as they announced their tour I knew I HAD to get tickets. Thankfully my sister is equally as obsessed with them as I am, so she came with me. We arrived at the arena super early, and waited all day in the freezing cold, even going to buy blankets at a local Primark because we were that freezing. It paid off in the end because we were second row, and they were even more glorious than they were the first time I saw them!

My Top Three Fall Out Boy songs are:

1) The Phoenix
2) Death Valley
3) Sugar We're Going Down

I first heard My Chemical Romance's 'Helena' when I used to watch movies that people had made from the Sims 2, and someone made an awesome one to that song. It wasn't until 'The Black Parade' was in the charts that I really started listening to them though. I found that I much preferred their older stuff to The Black Parade, but really I can listen to either. I just love how strong the emotion is in their lyrics, and love singing along to their songs...

My Top Three MCR Songs are:

1) Helena
2) I'm Not OK
3) The Ghost of You

Back when I was pretty young and Busted were in the charts I was totally obsessed with them. I begged my parents to take me to a Busted concert, but alas they never did. I remember watching Saturday Morning TV and desperately entering ever single competition they had to win tickets to see Busted, but it simply never happened. When they split, I was shattered, I would never get to see them in concert. Mcfly came along a filled the Busted void, and I liked them a lot, they weren't up to Busted's level for me, but that had some amazing songs. When the McBusted super group was announced I couldn't contain my excitement. My sister and I snapped up tickets, and in the end we WON tickets to go into the VIP area right at the front of the stage. You can read all about that experience here. It was literally amazing, even though I had to abandon my boyfriend, they played all of my favourite Mcfly and Busted songs, and by the end of the night I didn't have a voice left.

My Top 3 Busted/Mcfly Songs are:

1) Crashed the Wedding (Busted)
2) Room on the Third Floor (Mcfly)
3) Air Hostess (Busted)

Let me know in the comments what artists simply cannot escape your playlist, I love hearing from you!

Mini Tom Jones in my Head...

Friday, 21 February 2014

Yes, it's that time of week again, the time where I upload a Youtube video for the Dynamic7 Channel! This week's theme was music, and initially I was struggling to think of what to talk about, and then I remembered a weird condition that I suffer with... I like to call it Lyric Completion Compulsion, or LCC for short. What the video below to find out more!

Berkshire Bloggers do #SBBC: Hot Topic

Monday, 23 September 2013

Today I'm here to talk about someone who has been very present in the media recently, and a lot of people have opinions on this lady, so I thought it was about time I share mine.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, firstly 'where have you been?' and secondly, I'm talking about Miley Cyrus, and her VMA performance, with Robin Thicke. I'll admit, when I initially watched the performance I was shocked, I couldn't believe that she would be so brazen as to act that way onstage. Although at no point did I think to myself 'she's out of control', or anything of the sort. I didn't think any worse of her, or begin to call her a slut or anything else.

At the end of the day, Miley is allowed to do whatever she wants with her life. It's her choice to perform that way, and I know she had her reasons. She's a lot cleverer than most people are giving her credit for, she got the controversy that she orchestrated herself, and people are still talking about her performance, and listening to her music at the same time.

Personally I think everyone should let her get on with it!

As a complete sidenote, I am obsessed with 'We Can't Stop'.... someone help me?

Rose Reacts: JLS Splits Up!

Wednesday, 24 April 2013

It's no secret that I am a MASSIVE fangirl, in particular when it comes to boybands. When I split from my Ex, fangirling filled the void that he left in my life, and I fell in love with JLS and The Wanted. I mean I liked JLS when I was with my ex, but I became a crazy fangirl. Thankfully I got over that after a few months, but still I really love JLS. There music is severely cheesey, and I am aware that a lot of people hate it, but I don't.

So today they broke the news that they are splitting after a brilliant 5 years. I actually found out from my sister who Whatsapp'ed me as soon as she found out. I promptly fled to the internet to check if it was true, and I was shocked to see it was. Although these boys haven't had any number 1's in a while they are no where close to be 'Over' as they all seem to believe they are. They have a TONNE of fans who would buy any music that they release, even if it wasn't great. I understand that they've all got things going on, Marvin in particular. What with a child on the way, but they could have just taken a break for a while, they don't need to split up. They are making one final album, and are going to be doing one more tour before finally splitting.

If anything I am not upset about the news, I am angry with them. My sister pointed out to me that Oritse Williams seems to have moved on already, and checking his Twitter confirmed that he is already trying to promote himself:
I want to grab them all and shake them severely. Have they learned nothing from past boyband splits? Solo careers never work out for ex-boyband members (With the exception of the god that is Robbie Williams). Whats even worse is that I can already see them reuniting 5/10 years down the line when they've exhausted every avenue of attempting to get their solo careers off of the ground. At which point I believe that the lyrics from their debut single, 'Beat Again' will become very ironic, 'Let's just get back together, we should have never broke up'. Obviously I'll be happy to see them back, but I'm just angry that this decision seems to come so out of the blue.

Don't even get me started on what is going on with The Wanted right now...

Anyway my point was, I'll be sad to see them go. I wish them all the best of luck (even though I doubt any of them will get anywhere), and I will certainly be monitoring this situation closely! Let me know in the comments what you think!

31 Day Challenge! Day 22! What do you do when you are home alone?

Friday, 22 March 2013

What I do when I am home alone is actually pretty boring. I just do what I do everyday, I blog, I surf the internet and I watch my TV shows. 31 Day Blogging Challenge! Day 8! Biggest Pet Peeve!

Friday, 8 March 2013

The picture above really made me giggle, how sad am I? Anyway.. onto my pet peeve's!

  1. People Who are Fake: Now I completely understand that people have different persona's depending upon the people that they are in the company of. Even I act differently with my friends than I do my family, but not by much. I hate people who's persona's are COMPLETELY different to who they are, it's just dishonest. It's like meeting someone for the first time and they try to be extra nice, and then weeks down the line you find out they have habits that if you knew of in the first place then you wouldn't have bothered. This often means that when people first meet me they think I'm a bit in your face, but what you see with me is what you get. I'll be constant. Once you get to know me you realise that I do actually think about how other people are feeling. People just need to be honest about WHO they are.
  2. People who discriminate: I'm not just talking about racism, and sexism here. I'm talking about the rarely talked about discrimination's that are as relevant but thought of as much smaller issues. Such as discrimination against vegetarians. Although there is no outright 'banning' or anything like that of vegetarians, you will find that people often take the view that if you are a vegetarian then there is something wrong with you. I found this in January when I spent the month as a vegetarian, people often scoffed at my choice, and even more so when I told them I was trying it temporarily. At the end of the day it's MY choice. I'm not hurting anyone by being vegetarian so leave me alone. The same thing goes for discriminating against people that like a certain kind of music. I LOVE Pop music, and chart music, but that doesn't mean I don't listen to any other bands or artists, and even if I didn't it's none of your business. I've always been laughed at for my tastes in music, I find that people tend to think that people who like Pop music are 'sheep', which simply isn't the case. When I joined my Uni's student radio station I had hoped to meet a bunch of like minded people who at least liked appreciate the commercial value of Pop music. Instead I found I was one of few, most of the members liked Dubstep, Drum and Base and general Club music. Which I have no gripe with, I can see it's appeal in certain situations. I however was basically seen as an idiot for liking pop music, and boy bands, so in the end I quit (there were other reasons but it sprung from this basic discrimination). So yeah... LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE! THEIR CHOICES ARE THEIR OWN!
  3. Walking through town: Now this may seem like a strange one. I don't just mean walking through town, my pet peeve is more with the people that I face when I'm walking through town. You always get that one person who slows right down for no reason and holds up a whole line of people. Then you get the ones who just STOP in the middle of the curb so you can't get around them. Then there's the people who think they own the curb and just bowl their way through the town expecting people to get out of their way - they annoy me the most. When I'm walking through town I could be on my phone, talking to a friend, or just in an absent state of mind. BUT I am still conscious of every single obstacle in my way, and I go out of my way to make sure I am not an obstruction to anyone else. If I do obstruct someone, I APOLOGISE. Simple as that.

So there are my three main pet peeve's. I'm sure I could rant all day about things that annoy me but I think these three cover my main issues! Let me know in the comments what your pet peeve's are, and if you want to check out the other challenges so far then click the links below:
