Film Thoughts: TiMER

Thursday 7 February 2013

I actually found out about this film from Tumblr. There was a post that contained the tagline from the film that was floating around for a long time before I realised that it was actually a film! The tagline presented an interesting idea: 'If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know?'.Before I knew this was a film I began thinking about the concept itself. Would I want to know who my soulmate was. Short answer, yes. It would remove all the unnecessary heartbreak of having relationships with people who clearly aren't right for you. I am a hopeless romantic, I believe in soulmates and true love and that's my problem. I want the perfect fairytale relationship, and that is never going to happen. Anyway onto the film itself. It's interesting enough, with some good sub-plots. You follow the main character who's TiMER is blank. Meaning that her 'true love' hasn't had one implanted yet. You meet her as she drags yet another man into the matchmaker's shop to get one fitted so they can see if they are supposed to be together. Of course his starts up and shows a time and hers remains blank. This sends her on a journey that leads her to question what the point is of having the TiMER. Ultimately though she finds her 'one' but it leaves her in a less than ideal situation.I enjoyed the film overall, it made me think a little about love and my own situation and ideally what I'd like my future to look like. It's worth a watch if you are into girly films, simply for the concept.Would you get a TiMER if they existed?
