Never Gunna Give You Up!

Wednesday, 13 February 2013

Apologies for the post title, it had to be done. So yesterday was Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday, this had to be the first year since coming to university that I have actually bothered to make pancakes. I managed to limit myself to eating just two. One smothered in golden syrup and another with chocolate an strawberries.

At this time of year people often give up something for lent, this is an idea that I have NEVER even attempted. I know myself pretty well, and I know that if I take something out of my life, I'm only going to want it more. At least I always thought that way until this year. If you follow my internet presence then you may or may not know that I gave up meat for the entire month of January. My reasons being that I wanted to prove to myself that I could control my eating, and to broaden the kinds of things I eat (mainly vegetables). I succeeded and didn't eat meat on a single occasion. I ate Tuna a couple of times, but that counted in my 'broadening what I eat' because I am not a massive lover of fish. The fact that I got through an entire month without eating meat really surprised me, the old me would have given up after a few days, and trust me there were days when I wanted to throw in the towel. So I thought this year I would actually give something up for lent.

So I am giving up Coca-Cola. I drink A LOT of coke. Not as much as I used to drink but still a fair amount. So all the way up until Easter I will be avoiding this delicious drink. Thankfully I have already drank what coke remained in the house yesterday, so I can have a clean slate. I will be allowing myself other fizzy drinks, but I will limit them to only a couple a week. This way I'm making it more manageable on myself and therefore I am much more likely to succeed! I'm interested to see how this goes, particularly after the success of my January vegetarianism.

Are you giving up anything for lent? Let me know in the comments!
