31 Day Blog Challenge! Day 4! Best Childhood Memory!

Monday 4 March 2013

It's already day 4 of the 31 Day Blogging Challenge, I hope you are all enjoying my posts!

I thought it would be really funny to include some pictures of me when I was younger. My mum has an album on Facebook entitled 'Pics from the past' so I chose a few good ones from that for you to have a chuckle at!

From top left to bottom right: Me on Holiday (probably Butlins), Me being Christened, Me aged roughly 12/13 going through my Skater Phase with cousin Jade, Me with my Grandad at my christening, My first crush ever: Shiny Shaun (Cringe), Me perving at our Christmas tree, Alyssia the Pigeon whisperer, Enjoying a GIANT coke with mother, Me my cousin and my sister.

Yes I am in ALL of those pictures. Some of them make me cringe greatly. I don't have memories attached to all of these photos but I thought I'd talk about a few. Let's start with the picture right in the center. This was taken on one of our many holiday to Butlins, I happened to fall madly in love with a red coat called Shiny Shaun (oh the shame). My mum insisted that I have my photo taken with him, and then I'm sure this picture took pride of place in my play house for many years. Wow... Cringe much?

The second picture I want to talk about is the top right photo. Yes I went through a 'skater' phase with my cousin Jade. Basically me and Jade were the best of friends from a young age, as she only lived across the road from me! When we were younger her mum got married to a soldier and they moved up north, so I lost my best mate. Then she came back to live with her granddad for a while. She was going through a skater phase, so I 'wanting to be best of friends again' jumped on the band wagon! I'm pretty sure Jade did my makeup that day, and yes I am aware that I look like a Panda! We even listened to heavy metal music, and I can remember the lyrics to a particular Murder Dolls song called 'Die my Bride'. Oh to be young again! As a side note Jade has recently started a blog and she's going to be starting the 31 Day Challenge today so check her out here.

Anyway onto my BEST childhood memory, because that is what this post is supposed to be about! I guess my best childhood memories are of spending time with my Granddad (pictured above). He used to really encourage me to do well, and encouraged me to be interested in the world. I used to go and stay with him and my Nan for a few weeks every summer, and I'd be spoilt rotten! I remember one summer he took me to the library for the first time! He loved to read and was always going to the library. I took some books out in the morning, and by the afternoon I had read them all! There were at least 7, and they were quite thick 'young teen' books. Like Jacqueline Wilson books. So in the afternoon we trudged back to the library and I got 10 more. My granddad didn't fail to mention to the librarian that I had read ALL 7 books in one sitting. She was very impressed. I think I was about 9/10 when that happened. So yeah, all my best memories are of my lovely granddad, who unfortunately passed away about 6 years ago. In fact he passed away the week after my birthday. I remember that day vividly. I woke up and looked out of the window and it was a snow day, so I ran downstairs excited that I didn't have to go to school, and mum called us all into the living room and sat us down to tell us that Granddad had died in the night. I was devastated. I still am. My granddad was my biggest supporter, and this year especially I've been thinking about him a lot. I mean I've turned 21, and I'm going to graduate this year. He would have been so proud of me. I just hope that where ever he is, he's proud of me.

Well I hope you all feel you know me a bit better now! I promise that my next post won't be so sad! To see the posts I've done so far click on the links below:

  5. Grandfathers hold a special place in little girls' hearts, don't they? Both of mine died the same week (weird, I know) when I was six, so I didn't have many years with them. What I do remember is very special, though. Thanks for sharing!
